REVA - A Journey Within

After watching this movie I felt Gujarati movies are really improving with the passing days. This movie is inspired by the book ‘Tatvamasi’ written by one of the finest poet and a writer of Gujarati literature - Dhruv Bhatt.

Tatvamasi meaning - ‘That is you’ which describes many things in itself.

The movie tells us all about Indian culture, spirituality, faith, and much more. It tells the difference between having faith and myth.

Oh! I really loved this movie. I am impressed with the landscapes and the rich Indian heritage shown in the movie is just incredible.

So let’s discuss the characters of the movie “REVA - A Journey Within.”

Karan, the protagonist - The NRI who comes back to India to take back the property which his grandfather donated to the Narmada Ashram. Initially, he was selfish, greedy human but with the due course of time while staying near Maa Reva and interacting with people residing there who were kind-hearted; Karan as a human totally transforms into a selfless, respectful human. I loved the way Karan was convinced that REVA does exist and discovers his own self during the pilgrimage.

Supriya (trustee of the ashram) - She beautifully explains about respecting each other’s experiences and assumptions equally and not question or judge them before even knowing and experiencing the journey. She is a pure soul who just cares and bothers about the people residing in the village more than herself. She is always ready to sacrifice her life for the welfare of people.

Puriya (Villager) - She is always ready to help Karan despite not knowing him since they met on a train journey. Her selfless love for a child who was not her own can’t be described. While watching the movie I was so involved that I started feeling pity for her when villagers were ready to kill her alive believing that some evil spirit has started controlling her as she ate her brother’s child but it is the whole different story on the other side. It was only the myth of villagers. And to know the other side of the story you need to watch the movie.

Bittu - Banga (The twins): Most talented engineers without the so-called degree. So gifted they were that they saved Puriya by their archery skills. The way Bittu Banga covered the holy Narmada with saree was just amazing, felt as if I could jump into the scene and attend the ceremony. The only characters who made me laugh. The best duo of humans I ever saw.

Kale-waali Maa - Ohh! now, this lady did an amazing job by saving the lives of women in the village and providing them shelter. She is the superwoman in true sense.

Shastriji - The man whom everybody across the town respected and everyone takes the decision only after consulting him. He actually knew the people’s mindset that if they would be terrified then only they will believe but behind those terrible myths there existed real facts which actually treated people who were ill.

Guptaji - One of the most stable minded guys to handle the tribals and find ways to make them live a better life is none other than Guptaji. The different ways of saying “Shree Hari” to express his all emotions are amazing.

Fakir- This is another wonderful character. And it was more fun when I got to know that he is none other than Chalu Pandey from TMKOC. He actually showed that worshipping river Narmada (Reva) isn’t about any religion but it's all about respecting the culture and interacting with Nature and finding our own self.

I honestly recommend the readers to watch this movie and also read the book ‘Tatvamasi’.
